NEW BIKE RULES SHOP OPEN

Four-year-old Walker Robinson gleefully put on a helmet as he prepared to try out a bike Wednesday at Sycamore Cycles.

The store, which opened last month at 146 Third Ave. E. in downtown Hendersonville, serves everyone from knee-high riders to serious bicycle enthusiasts and those who just enjoy a leisurely ride around the neighborhood.

The business marks the second store for the company. The original Sycamore Cycles is in Pisgah Forest, said Jeff Parker, Hendersonville store manager. Owner Wes Dickson opened the Hendersonville store last month to expand into a larger market, Parker said.

“Most bike shops really key in on the mountain bikes. But there is a huge road scene in this area and people who race,” he said. “It gave us an opportunity to expand our inventory into the racing bikes and the cyclo-cross bikes, which people use as a road bike, but they have some mountain bike features such as the larger tires with more aggressive tread for the mountain trails.”

The business carries the Specialized brand of bikes and the Yeti brand of mountain bikes, Parker said. There are bikes available for everyone, from small children to adults. They include a variety of sizes and styles, depending on the type of riding a person is interested in doing.

Business has been good so far, Parker said, with several sales that should result in some happy children on Christmas morning. The store sells the Hot Rocks line of children's bikes, a favorite among parents teaching their young children how to ride, he said.
